Mainly Black and White - Sebastopol Center for the Arts

June 19 - July 31   Mainly Black and White
Juror Paul Mahder

Artwork, in mainly black and white or with tolerance for a minimal sidestep of color. Color, if used, is to enhance the black and white theme. Open to all media: printing, photography, painting, film, sculpture, fiber arts, drawing, mime performance, installation,...

Concurrent shows in Galleries II and III will be “Sentient Life” and “Color Cascades”.

“Sentient Life” is presented by local artist C. Anissa Rust. Anissa translates an energy that belies the term 'still life.' Her paintings in oil reflect her unique vision and sensitivity, her own mature painterly language. Each painting explores the space inhabited by her subjects. Her saturated palette has evolved through years of experience.

“Color Cascades”, a wonderfully colorful fiber installation by Cecily Axt, features palettes of painted fabric torn and formed into sculptural hangings. Cecily uses words and symbols on the fabric itself and describes her work as “reminiscent of water falls in nature”.  Cecily is well known for her collage work and has been teaching weaving and collage, and artfully working in these media, for over 25 years.
